Overview
Social media isn’t about networking or socializing anymore - it’s a vehicle for advertisements, reposted content, and one-sided relationships, driven to retain and divert attention at the expense of the user’s mental health. Furthermore, the apps that are geared towards meeting people and socializing are still too influenced by social media and dating app models that commodify and idealize people in unnatural ways, and are designed to keep you on the apps rather than get you into the real world. How can an app help us meet and interact with new people in ways that feel more real and human?
Butterfly Garden is an app that provides a way for people to connect with others around shared interests and activities. It avoids the pain of large group meetups for people who are better with small-scale interactions by allowing people to create invitations for other people to join them in specific activities in the outside world.

User Flows

This series of videos walks through three core user flows for the app: creating an event, browsing events and choosing one to attend, and arriving at an event and choosing to report a user you had a bad experience with.

App Pitch

This 10-minute presentation walks through the concept and thought process behind Butterfly Garden, detailing the foundational researching, target audience personas, branding, and narrating the user flows depicted above.
